CAER 2017 Begins... Thursday 4th May!
What will be uncovered this year?
We're back for our 11th season during which examination of trench IV will be continued. Our work will examine the interior of the masonry building (the possible chapel) with its drain discharging into the ditch, the western part of the ditch feature where it is overlain by the medieval building and the underlying deposits. This year trench IV will also be extended to the south in order to locate and examine a stone structure identified during the excavation of a service trench in 2013.
Keep up to date with all the discoveries, brought to you by our daily bloggers.

Public relations

Catherine gets a boost from PR!

Today we persevered with cleaning up the site as over the weekend the site saw a lot of rain, so we had to redo everything we did on Friday. But eventually we were able to make a start on removing layers at different parts of the site. Although it was relatively easy work my knees are suffering for it!
As my group was on public archaeology duty in the morning we were given the opportunity to talk to any members of the public that came up to the fence to find out what we were doing. They asked a lot of questions and it was rather thrilling to be able to answer them but it can be a bit daunting when you don’t know the answer! Overall the day was really beneficial and talking to the public can give you quite a confidence boost!
